    Millions of people protested peacefully against Trump.

    Violence, in the few places where it happened, was instigated by law enforcement and counter-protesters.

      @funnymonkey

      With murder, and shootings and political assassination happening on the same day I do not want to hear about a broken window or how someone knocked over a garbage can. It's getting absurd.

      Democratic law makers lectured and stressed "PeAcEFul" protest for weeks and weeks and it was annoying and patronizing.

      Where are the right wing politicians saying "Do Not Kill People" for example. Just as a thought?

        @funnymonkey

        People who complain about violence at protests generally just don't like the protest at all but are too cowardly to address the issue so they focus on the side issue which is impossible to control.

        It's the same thing that's done to any targeted group... if a single member of the group does anything wrong it counts for everyone.

        It is always possible to make the news coverage of a protest seem "violent" no matter what those who participate do.

          @futurebird @funnymonkey Protest works at all because it's a combination of warning and proof; "We're mad, and there are an awful lot of us". The implication is one of bad consequences for the persons whose conduct provoked the protest, with the deal since WWII being "treat this seriously and no one needs to die artistically".

          The deal has broken down, so there's this massive public focus on non-violence (from the protesting side; protestors are regularly murdered) so protest can be ignored.
