We’ve just got back from two weeks in Taiwan, and I wanted to share an afternoon’s adventure searching for the stored remains of the Japanese-era Meiji Bridge across the Keelung River.
The first Meiji Bridge across the Keelung River was built by the Japanese authorities in 1901 to connect Taipei to the then newly-built Taiwan Shrine, a Shinto shrine where the Grand Hotel now stands.
The first bridge had a steel truss construction, and originally wooden decking, later replaced by steel.
