It drives me nuts how people talk about body language and how sad or happy these nation leaders look around these meetings but what else it there for us to talk about until some papers are signed or action taken.

The consensus in media is that the meeting in Alaska with just Trump and Putin started with pomp and good cheer and ended very sour, while the meeting in Washington with Zelensky and his gang of Europeans was more positive.
What could it mean?

I get that some folks are interested in process, many are interested in sportsball score-keeping, but it seems most are interested in consequences.
And for those, we wait and see.

One take that I find intriguing is that the European leaders went in with the aim of making Trump feel positive and important (while Putin stepped on his toes) perhaps correctly perceiving that our president is a very petty and simple person.
I am hoping the the death and destruction can stop, and that this can be done without rewarding Russian aggression (because then there will be more of that, no thank you)

Every war upsets me deeply. I guess it's naive but every time I see an army, all of the organization and human effort I'm disappointed that they aren't doing something else. I understand that Russia doesn't want to be a little "petrol state" ... given how such states are treated by the powerful nations.
Could that be the root of the problem?

Lots of things going on at the same time, but if I had to pick, I'd say that elites (and a non-negligible chunk of population) never got over the events of December 1991.
Similar to how American elites (and a non-negligible chunk of population) never got over the events of April, 1865.

Lost cause Russians? One of them did show up in a CCCP sweater. Not helping to dispel that notion, that.
