Why in fictional romantic settings are couples always eating pasta? Have you seen people eat pasta? It's disgusting. It is not the food of romance, it is the food of sadness. If you saw me eat pasta when I'm sad.... you would never want to watch another human being eat anything ever again. Shovelling spaghetti and garlic bread into my mouth between sobs.

    So.... <crying noises>..... tell me a bit about you <slurping chewing gargling sounds>......that's a really nice outfit you're wearing..... <wailing choking weeping>

I don’t think you want a real answer but I have one anyway. It goes back to a time when for “high society” white Americans Italian food was “exotic” and sort of fashionably ethnic and unexpected. So, going on a date to a fancy Italian restaurant was a little adventure to make the pulse race within acceptable parameters.

What a well traveled and fashionable fellow your date must be to take you to eat in THAT part of town.
