Today I had to explain to a kid what a check was which they understood after some context, but then explaining how you had to go to the bank and use and envelope to deposit checks shocked them.

It occurs to me that the whole tradition of giving people a "giant check" for a sweepstakes may not be as significant as it once was.

Also giant checks are perfectly valid if they have all the details, so I wonder if photo deposit works on them.

I haven't touched a paper check since this child was born... so I shouldn't be surprised.

But also ever since my students have found they can annoy me by calling the 90s "the olden days" I'm a little suspicious when they start asking about something like it's ancient history.

@futurebird their is a Reddit community "ask old people" the cut off is you have to be born before 1980.

There are plenty of questions about how you survived without cellphones and internet.

There used to be an "oldies" music station here in the Twin Cities that played '60s and '70s pop.

When I moved back; I discovered that they are still the oldies station but they are now playing "80s, 90s, and 2k".
