@futurebird NYC shoulda used STAR voting so it would be obvious you can give him a 0, the default, but you can fill it in and be counted as-such. Ranking someone last eventually counts as your first choice if you're lucky enough to have your choices eliminated in order instead of your ballot "exhausted". IRV's choose-one basis makes it not a good method for getting out of the choose-one hole we've dug ourselves.

There are like ten candidates I think and you don't have to rank them all. Though I'm still trying to understand this.
