Is it a good price though? The average wage for a commoner is 2 sp per day. The equivalent to 100 days wages for a unskilled worker. Skilled workers earn about 2 gp per day. So this represents 10 days wages. A better bargain for sure. Adventurers are always loaded with money, so our as players is skewed.

Hell of a lot faster than going through the courthouse for a name change. Probably cheaper and more effective too.

They just casually stroll up and loot hundreds of GP from an ancient crypt, awaken a long-forgotten lich, and then fuck off. It’s always up to the city guard to put down the inevitable undead army that the lich has raised. It truly is the definition of “capitalism for thee, socialism for me.”

>“So why is it 20 GP if all you did was wave your hands around and chant some incantations? Anyone could have done that…” >“Here’s an itemized bill. 1 copper piece for waving my hands around. 1 copper piece for the incantation. 1 copper piece for the scroll... 97cp, 9sp, and 9gp for the education and experience to know which hand waving, incantations, and spell scrolls to use.” Seriously, every single freelancer or contractor has gotten the “Well I could have done that, what the hell am I paying you for? That only took you like 10 minutes” response after making their job look easy.

This is a pretty advanced spell after all, and transcribing spells is expensive. But the real answer is the wizard and the commoners should band together and overthrow the who takes all of the wealth and prevents the formation of a magical post-scarcity society. The wizard could start by renaming the King "Little Baby Commoner"
