The big aster volunteer that I let grow in my garden has turned out to be huge hit with the local sand wasps (Bembix americana). I haven't seen those since I was in elementary school, where they made nests in the playground sand and occasionally bit students who made a point of harassing them. We called them sand bees.
I was just reading about them and they apparently like to eat flies. It would be nice if this means there are less houseflies around my cottage.
