I will call "No Kings" a big success. Multiple outlets are reporting on millions of participants. It was bigger than the one in the summer.

A lot of people participating in something like this for the first time.

It was national and even a little international (Thank you London and Dublin)

No one can say the president or his regime has broad popular support or a mandate.

    @futurebird

Now, there's the task of convincing billionaires they had better stop funding fascist movements globally... or else.

    Just a moment...

@futurebird @Dave_Goldsmith @Npars01 lol. Strikes are great when you have a solid organization, resources banked to keep strikers afloat without working income, and a clear set of achievable demands. Much like military strikes it is diplomacy by other means, not just an end of itself to cause reciprocal pain.

Makes sense. Who is organizing? Big labor? These one and done protests are unlikely to move the needle...

@Dave_Goldsmith @futurebird @Npars01 thats the thing, if any group is organizing with purpose of a general strike I'm not aware of it, I just hear chants for it from leftist and online nerds who want "one weird trick" to fix our major dysfunction, to cause pain for the people causing our trouble, but don't respect the work needed for the tactic to be effective.

I'm thinking a general strike can be a one-day affair. It should not have to cause trauma to workers. I don't know is it ridiculous to imagine one day a month we shut down the economy?

So our union has had two strikes in the 26 years I have been in it. 2000 and 2022. They were not one day affairs rather open ended 56 days in 2000 and a week in 2022.

TO send a message 1 day is fine to effect any change may need to be longer than that but 1 day would still be cool to see

We almost did a teacher's strike once, but they caved at the last moment. We had to do a lot of prep to be ready and frankly I was very happy we didn't need to walk out.

                    I like my job!

                    Strikes take a collective will.

Microsoft has patch Tuesdays. Why can't we have No Kings Mondays? The second Monday of every month there's a general strike. People in favor of the strike meet to discuss politics, work on local projects like cleaning and repairing homes, stream cleanup, etc.

You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one. (I hope.)

My point with that comment is that people have very different relationships to their jobs and what a "strike" might mean.

I don't think this is as generally applicable as it might seem. Maybe for the retail and parts of the private sector it could make sense, but not everyone works there.

Because I have every hour of class time planned and wish I had more.

What should we do instead of general strikes and boycotts?

                                    Recommendations?

Try it all, until something clicks with billionaires. It's going to take a lot to break through to MAGA billionaires

They're very insulated from backlash & they own a media ecosystem that servilely serves up self-soothing lies

In the past, global financial meltdowns & world wars did the trick, ... eventually

Try the tactics of the Simple Sabotage Manual & escalate up to massing troops on the border to free folks from fascist overlords

I like the idea of trying everything non-violently.

Do you have a union at your job? Or in your industry? I think rebuilding unions is important. Even fast food workers made some progress on this front.

There are jobs where it can be harder to organize.

We almost did a teacher's strike once, but they caved at the last moment. We had to do a lot of prep to be ready and frankly I was very happy we didn't need to walk out.

                                          I like my job!

                                          Strikes take a collective will.

Back in the 1980s we had rolling strikes in teaching.
Odd days, mornings and afternoons rather than going out on strike long term eg the crippling miners strike against Thatcher's govt.
