Succinctly, I would say any GM who says 'I don't want to spend my time thinking about the in-game world' is just someone who would be happier as a player but is taking one for the team. In the metaphor, he's the guy at the orgy squeezing a fleshlight between his thighs and wearing a wig so his buddies can pretend. He's trying to be creative with what's lying around. However, everyone would be happier if he wasn't in that position. They're all just too desperate to go elsewhere. I mean, it's really nice of the guy to do that for his friends, but it's not really what they showed up for.

It's a game I'm definitely looking forward to after I get a gpu upgrade for my laptop. A 7700s just doesn't cut it. Started playing it, decided to wait for later.

For a while people tried to differentiate roguelikes, which maintained the lack of metaprogression, with roguelites, which did have progression. But that was pretty clearly a losing battle, the two names were far too similar to stay distinct as long as one or the other took off. Some few pendants still try to maintain the distinction, but that ship sailed ages ago.

The only ones that look anywhere close to passable are the Cubs and Brewers. And those still look bad, just not "what the fuck were they thinking?" bad.
